Megapixels vs. Print Size

Print size = pixels ÷ DPI. Gallery-quality prints use 300 DPI, very good home prints 200, and large posters viewed from a distance are fine at 150 or even 100 DPI. A 24 MP photo (6000×4000) prints razor sharp at 20×13 inches (50×33 cm) — far larger than most people expect.

Can I print a 12 MP phone photo as a poster?

Yes — 4000×3000 px gives 33×25 cm at 300 DPI, but a 68×50 cm poster at 150 DPI still looks great from normal viewing distance. Viewing distance matters more than DPI dogma.

What DPI do photo labs actually need?

Most labs are happy at 240-300 DPI; canvas and posters are commonly printed at 150. Sending more DPI than the printer resolves gains nothing.
