What Is Volumetric Weight?
Carriers charge for whichever is greater: the parcel's actual weight or its volumetric weight = width × length × height (cm) ÷ divisor. Common divisors: 5000 (international express — DHL, UPS, FedEx), 6000 (many air freight tariffs) and 3000 (domestic couriers in some countries, e.g. "desi" in Türkiye).

Check your carrier's tariff: 5000 is standard for international express, 6000 for many air cargo rates, 3000 for several domestic courier markets. When unsure, ask the carrier — it changes the bill significantly.
How can I reduce the chargeable weight?
Use the smallest box that safely fits the item and avoid excessive padding — every centimetre trimmed from each dimension lowers the volumetric weight multiplicatively.
