How the Forecast Is Built
Every forecast on this page comes from Open-Meteo, which blends output from national numerical weather prediction models — the same physics-based simulations agencies like NOAA, DWD and Météo-France run — for the exact coordinates you pick, not the nearest city center. The raw model output is a long list of numeric variables (temperature, dew point, cloud cover, precipitation amount, wind); to make that readable, it gets collapsed into a single WMO weather code and matched to an icon. Code 0 means clear sky, 1-3 spans mostly clear to overcast, 45-48 is fog, 51-67 covers drizzle through rain, 71-86 is snow, and 95-99 flags thunderstorms. So a forecast showing code 61 with a rain icon for Tuesday means the model expects continuous light-to-moderate rain that day, not just generic clouds.
Concretely: if the model predicts 14°C, 78% humidity, 12 km/h wind and 3mm of rain for a point, the code resolves to 63 ("moderate rain") and the icon switches from partly-cloudy to a rain symbol automatically — no manual curation, straight from the numbers the model returns.
The further out a forecast reaches, the less certain it is. Weather is a chaotic system: small measurement errors in today's atmosphere compound as the model steps forward hour by hour, so the spread between possible outcomes widens with every extra day. Days 1-3 are usually close to what actually happens; day 5 already carries meaningfully more error; day 7 should be read as the general trend rather than a fixed promise of rain-or-shine, and it can still shift once newer model runs ingest fresher data.
What to Know Before You Rely on It
Precipitation probability is not "how much of the day it rains" — it is the model's confidence that measurable precipitation falls at all. A 70% chance means 7 out of 10 similar atmospheric setups historically produced rain at that point, not that 70% of the day will be wet. Temperature and "feels like" differ because the latter factors in wind chill and humidity, which change how a given air temperature is actually experienced by the body. Because the tool queries an exact latitude/longitude rather than a city name, it is more useful for trailheads, campsites, farms and villages that city-level apps round away to the nearest urban center — but that also means results can vary noticeably between two points a few kilometers apart in mountainous or coastal terrain, where local topography strongly shapes weather. No forecast tool, including this one, replaces official severe-weather warnings from your national meteorological agency.
