Find a ZIP, Measure Between Two

Enter any 5-digit US ZIP code to see the city and state it belongs to, plus its geographic coordinates. Enter a second ZIP and the tool computes the straight-line ("as the crow flies") distance between the two, in miles and kilometres, using the haversine formula on the official coordinates.

Lookups use the free Zippopotam.us service, queried directly from your browser — nothing is stored on this site. Keep in mind that a ZIP code is a postal delivery area, not a point: the coordinates are the area's approximate centre, so distances carry a small inherent tolerance. Driving distance will always be longer than the straight line — typically 15–40% more depending on the road network.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this the driving distance?

No — it is the straight-line (great-circle) distance between the two ZIP areas' centre points. Actual road distance is longer, typically by 15–40%. Use it for radius checks, shipping zones and rough planning.

Why does my ZIP show a different city name than I expect?

ZIP codes belong to the US Postal Service's delivery structure, and the "official" place name is the main post office's, which can differ from a neighbourhood or suburb name. The state and coordinates are still correct.

Do ZIP+4 codes work?

Enter just the first 5 digits — the +4 extension narrows to a block or building but is not needed for lookup or distance.

Where does the data come from?

The free Zippopotam.us API, based on the public GeoNames dataset. Your browser queries it directly; this site's server is not involved.
