How the ACT Composite Works
Your composite is the average of your section scores (1-36 each), rounded to the nearest whole number — halves round up, so an average of 27.5 becomes 28. Since the enhanced ACT rolled out in 2025, the composite comes from English, Math and Reading only; Science became an optional section reported separately (like Writing). On earlier paper tests, the composite averaged all four sections including Science.
