Liters needed = distance × consumption ÷ 100; cost = liters × price. A 450 km trip in a car burning 6.5 L/100 km at $1.10/L uses 29.3 L ≈ $32. The tool also gives cost per km — handy for splitting rides or comparing against transit fares.
If your car reports MPG instead: L/100 km = 235.21 ÷ MPG (35 MPG ≈ 6.7 L/100 km). Real consumption runs 10-20% above catalog figures in city traffic, with AC, or loaded — measure yours by resetting the trip computer over a full tank.

How do I find my real consumption?
Fill the tank, reset the odometer, drive normally, refill: liters refilled ÷ km driven × 100. Two or three tanks average out weather and traffic.
Does speed change the math?
Strongly — aerodynamic drag grows with speed squared. Most cars burn 15-25% more per km at 130 km/h than at 100; city stop-and-go is also far above the highway figure.
How do I split cost among passengers?
Divide the total by people — the per-km output makes it easy to also charge partial legs fairly.
